    Matt,
Thank you for your comment and the kind words. It means a lot to me.

So filmmaking is your dream and passion? Looking for some useful tips?

The best advice I can give you is you must turn your dream of “being a film director” into a goal. Everyone has dreams to become someone or do something, however, it will remain a dream until a clear, written goal has been set and you start working towards that goal everyday.

Take a day or two to really think and imagine when you’d like to be a film director. Is it one year from now? 3 months? 2 years? For more step by step tips towards becoming a film director, read my blog article “Is It Worth Going to Film School?” from Feb. 2010 archives. This article provides useful and practical how-to information that will steer you in the right direction towards making your dream of “being a film director” into a reality.

    To Your Success!

Thank you so much Ian. The blog article inspired me alot. I have one question for you, i work usually 2 days on my movie ideas, when im writing the scripts how do i keep a good lead for the story? Like i wanna make an action film with some mystery in it but i cant think of ideas to keep it going. For example a street racing addict named mason gets killed in a wreck by his friend that betrays him, well masons brother mike wants to start racing to find out who did it but the only person to s teach him is the guy that killed mason, and mike and the guy become best friends but the killer dont wanna tell him he did it.
Srry for just laying it all out like that. I just need advice and it would mean alot to me if the advice came from you, thanks.

You never know what or how something may trigger a comeback but I think these words may have just done that for me. I was already starting to make a resurgence and upping my fitness training, so as to be more energetic and light on my feet when I am on set making things happen. It may sound arrogant, but I think the biggest barrier for me has been fear of failure, and this after my first film short out of my first 16 mm film class won the audience choice award as best film, and my instructor admonished me to make sure I came back and lectured to his class when I made it. All this and I ended up paralized by fear of not so much failure, but not being perfect. At anyrate, I read this words of encouragement regularly now, and commit them to memory. I am pouring my self into my work like never before. At one point the life of failure became so painful that the only escape from that pain was my work as an artist. Only when I was totally and obsessively focused on honing my craft could I bare the pain of being alive. I could make the world go away, but leaving it and escaping into the intricacies and minutia of camera technique, lighting, staging, story, and character. The irony is that in escaping there, and in this way I found some peace and I also started getting confidence as the mass of information I was collecting began to overflow, I began to feel like ” hey I think I know a thing or two about how to make movies. To hell with film school and there high costs which I don’t even begin to have. So what began as an escape from pain ended up being a weapon against isolation. So now my life is far less painful because I have hope that I will find a way to do what I love more than anything else in the world, making movies. I had to face my fear in order to regain my love of cinema and life for that matter. It make perfect sense why Spielberg put this as job on. It also made such a difference knowing that my idol experienced fear and some doubt too, it made me feel not so hard on myself.
The only person that can stop me is me, and that just isn’t going to happen.
